Schallsignalanlagen sind ein wesentliches Sicherheitsinstrument an Bord von Booten und Yachten. Sie ermöglichen die Kommunikation unter eingeschränkten Sichtverhältnissen und tragen wesentlich zur Vermeidung von Kollisionen auf See bei.

Die Verwendung von Schallsignalanlagen ist in den internationalen Kollisionsverhütungsregeln (COLREGs) festgelegt, die bestimmte Signale für verschiedene Situationen vorschreiben, wie zum Beispiel beim Manövrieren, Überholen oder bei eingeschränkter Sicht.
